Kat & Jerry's Wedding

Jerry is from California, Kat is from New York.
Jerry is reserved, Kat is lively.
Jerry knows what sympathetic nervous system stimulants to take, while Kat knows what Photoshop keybaord shortcuts to press.

They are different but it works. It works beautifully between them, because at the end of the day it's not about personality, interests, or preferences. Communication and commitment, and from knowing them and this wedding I shot for them, Kat and Jerry have a lot of both.

I tried but I couldn't narrow down my favorites. So there's quiet a bit of pictures on this post. To see even more, you can to their gallery. This wedding was so much fun to shoot. Congratulations to you both.

Jane & Curtis

It's always a win-win situation when you get to shoot with another photographer for an event, especially if the photographer is Albert Cheung. The teamwork and synergy that happens always results in better images for the client.

Here's some of my favorites from Jane & Curtis' wedding I shot last month with Albert. Even though it was the middle of January the weather was nice enough to have an outdoor ceremony.

Esther & Sam: Married in 6 Months

So here's the story of how I got to shoot Sam & Esther's wedding. I've known Sam for a while now and when I ran into into him at a concert last July, I was surprised to hear that he was still single, knowing how eligible of a bachelor he is.

Well, about three months later in November, Sam calls me up and asks me, "Hey Minnow, I'm getting married in December. Are you available to shoot my wedding?" I answer, "Of course man! Congratulations!" but also really confused as to how someone who was single a couple months ago was getting married in a month. But I guess that's how it works when you are eligible, ready, and found the person you want to be with.

When I saw him and Esther together on their wedding day, it all made sense. Their wedding was beautiful, simple; they just wanted to be together for the rest of their lives.

Congratulations to you both.

Here are a couple of my favorite shots from the day.

Accepted into the WPJA

wpja_plain_logo_black_red.gif

As January has quickly come to an end, I have some great news to share with everyone. It's a big milestone for Minnow Park Photography: I have been accepted into the Wedding Photojournalist Association; I'm listed under New York and New Jersey. It's an international organization that was "founded to uphold excellence in the area of wedding photojournalism" as quoted from their vision statement.

Wedding photojournalism encompasses my approach to weddings and any other event that I cover. I want to document the events without interference and to capture genuine moments as they happen in front of me. And so I'm proud to be a part of an organization that understands the value of such photography.

Needless to say, I'm very excited and after looking at the photography of my fellow members, I'm challenged to work even harder and improve my own photography.

Fall & Winter Weddings: Christina & Paul

Being a part time wedding videographer, Paul had kept a running list of all the best vendors around the NJ area to hire for his own wedding. From the venue, DJ, to caterers, he knew exactly who he wanted. All of that added up to a beautiful ceremony and reception that had great music and food.

Congratulations to you both!

Fall & Winter Weddings: Sara & Chris

One day in May or June at my previous job, Chris came up to me and asked if I would shoot his wedding for him in October. It's great to meet new people and be able to take picture of their special day, but it's even better when that person is a friend and coworker.
Chris & Sara both have a deep love for Brooklyn, It's where the newlyweds are living now and also where their wedding took place, specifically the Audubon Boathouse in Prospect Park. I lived in Brooklyn until I was 7 and I remember my mom taking me their every Saturday to feed the ducks and play in the grass. It was great to go back to a place where I have so many great memories in order to capture the memories made between Sara, Chris, and their loved ones on that mid-October night.
"Weeee got marrieeeeeed!" they both said in unison as they sat on the steps of the boathouse. The night was halfway through and we stepped out for a second into the quiet night for a quick portrait session. They were smiling throughout the whole night and every chance they got they gave each other glances full of inside jokes, genuine love, and promises that will last them a 100 lifetimes.
Congratulations to you both.

Fall & Winter Weddings: Cara & Mike

It's called a King's wedding. Twelve groomsmen as the wedding party. No bridesmaids. We never experienced that before, and I don't know if we ever will.

Cara & Mike knew each other since they were children. All 14 of them grew up together, but it seemed like everyone else at the wedding did also. There was a closeness amongst the people there that you would find during a holiday dinner, but not usually at a wedding party. The guest list spanned across 3 generations but everyone knew each other by name.

The wedding took place at a beach in New Jersey. It rained the morning of and even 5 minutes before the ceremony started. But for the 30 minutes that were scheduled, the clouds held their breath and waited till the ceremony, and one of the coolest portraits sessions I ever shot was over. Jeff and I kept saying throughout the night how amazing the place, light, and the people were.

Congratulations to you both and all your king's men.

Fall & Winter Weddings: Jean & Simon

As the year is quickly winding down to an end, I wanted to post some of my favorites photos from the weddings I had the great opportunity to cover this quarter. The first one was Jean and Simon's wedding in September. Theirs was a long time coming. They were together for 8 years before they tied the knot and everyone at their wedding couldn't wait another minute to see these two get married. And needless to say that when the day and moment came, the celebrations were crazy, loud, and joyful. It was a gorgeous saturday afternoon with the sun shamelessly shining through the floor to ceiling windows. Congratulations to you both.
